This little unicorn is my third rocking horse with polymer clay rockers. I started out making a grey dappled horse, but somewhere along the line had the idea of turning him into a unicorn and then let my fantasy run wild.
He measures 2" from his forehead to the base of his tail and is just 1¾" tall. With his rockers he measures 4" across and 2½" high. He is made of shiny silvery-grey medium-pile upholstery velvet. He has onyx bead eyes and a long mane and tail made of silky waved viscose hair. I have also needle-sculpted his body to give additional definition to his front and back legs. I have added dappled markings on his fore and hindquarters, drybrushed with cream acrylic paint. He is stuffed with polyfil.
Argent has a bridle and reins are made of narrow cream ultrasuede straps and tiny nickel-plated jump rings. I have added a tiny silver bead where the straps of the bridle cross at the top. My usual saddle leather looked to ordinary on this magical creature, so I searched through my store cupboard for something more suitable... his saddle is made of the thinnest vintage white kid glove leather, and is removable. The straps for the stirrups hang over the saddle flaps, and an ultrasuede girth below the flap holds the saddle securely. The girth fastens with two D-rings. The stirrups are made of silvery wire. I added two tiny silver star sequins to the flaps for decoration.
His horn is made of ivory polymer clay and is securely stitched on.
The rockers are made of FIMO polymer clay and painted them silver to add to the fantasy effect. There are four round bars between the rockers and four slats in the center. After assembly, I varnished the "wood" for a satin finish. I made holes through the rockers before baking them and the little horse is sewn onto them using extra-strength invisible nylon thread.
In addition to being a beautiful companion for a bear, he will also look lovely in a 1:12 dollhouse nursery. (My photograph shows him in my Sewing Room vignette box.)
He will come to you with his very own little passport, signed and dated, bearing his unique passport number.
