Sometimes photographs just fail to capture the spirit of a little soft sculpture animal, and this is one of those cases. I have tried different background colors, different lighting conditions, even taking photographs with a flash, but the real-life Rowan is just so much more beautiful than all my pictures show. I feel the photos show her much "flatter" than she really is, not showing off her gentle curves and her sweet nature. She is perching here on top of my computer monitor (I have even taken a photo of her there!) and seems so much more graceful than the photo I have on the screen right below her. So if you like her, know that she will be even better "in the fur"!
Rowan measures just 2" from her forehead to the base of her tail and is 1-1/2" tall. With her rockers she measures 4" across and 2-1/2" high. She is more a pony than a thoroughbred, and is made of taupe medium-pile upholstery velvet. Looking through books on horses, I have discovered that this color is called "strawberry roan". She has very slight dappling on her shoulders and hindquarters. She has onyx bead eyes and a flying mane and tail made of silky waved viscose hair that I have hand-dyed to a red-blonde color that complements her fur.
I have given special attention to creating realistic "tack" for little Rowan: her bridle and reins are made of narrow (1/16th inch) ultrasuede straps and tiny nickel-plated jump rings. The saddle is made of soft green nappa leather, and is removable. It is fastened with an ultrasuede girth (1/8th inch wide), using two D-rings. The stirrups are made of silver wire and are attached to the girth with ultrasuede straps underneath the saddle. The rockers are made of dark brown hand-dyed medium-pile upholstery velvet, decorated with golden star sequins and tiny gold glass seed beads. I used three brushed brass beads as spacers between the rockers.
She will also fit beautifully into a 1:12 dollhouse nursery. (My photograph below left shows her in my Sewing Room vignette box.)
She will come to you with her very own little passport, signed and dated, bearing a unique passport number.
